Last time out
The first time we played Bristol last season ended in a draw, we were the first team to take points away from them in the season which was a massive boost for us, but maybe a frustrating match for them. Bristol took the lead within the first 30 minutes of the game with Ffion Morgan getting the goal. The first half we didn’t create or take many chances, only having one shot on target which was long range from Wilko. Our defending in this match was also brilliant. The second half was a lot better as we then equalised through a beautifully worked goal. A long ball from Raff was met on the wing by Ella, then Ella put a lovely ball into the area for Beth Lumsden to score! The match ended 1-1.
The second time we met them was in the FA Cup, the most annoying and frustrating match. This match ended in 2-0 to Bristol and their twelfth player, the ref. The match was very one sided, we should have had fouls against us that were actually fouls & they had ‘fouls’ go their way which weren’t. We were without a fair few of our first team for this match and the team done well considering. Bristols two goals also come from our mistakes, which won’t be happening this Wednesday that’s for sure!
The third time we met them was at home, where we started off very spritely with a chance within the first minute! Bristol took the lead within 18 minutes through a goal from Ffion Morgan.we truly were battling hard this match, we were just missing that final third touch, which is something that we struggled with all
of last season. It was a performance to be proud of and they did everything they could I’m this match.
Looking ahead
Looking ahead this will be the first time we meet Bristol City, after they were promoted from the Championship to the WSL last season. Will we be facing a new and improved Bristol? Considering they’ve been promoted to the best
women’s league in the world and would have needed to up their antics. Or will we be facing a Bristol that we know all too well? Time will truly tell and I’m very excited for this match, it’s going to be a good one that’s for sure!
Bristols last two games within the WSL have both been losses, the first loss was against Leicester where they lost 4-1 after taking the lead in the 33rd minute. The second was against fellow Conti group team, Tottenham where they lost 3-1, after going 3 nil down within the first half! They are currently bottom of the Womens Super League table.
You’ve got to think, will Bristol play seriously in this Continental cup game or will they be aiming to focus on the league. I’d like to think they would take this seriously and give a good 90-minute bout of football. The last few times we’ve faced Bristol has been a well worked battle from both teams, let’s hope it’s going to be the same Wednesday! Although, they do have Man City in the league on Sunday, so will they rest some of their ‘big players’?!
See you all this week and safe travels to you all!
