This Sunday, Saints will be facing future WWE wrestlers, Durham at Snows Stadium. The match will kick off at an earlier time of 12pm. This is going to be a truly good match and it would be amazing to see as many of you there to support, and cheer on the girls to what will hopefully be another victory. If you can’t make it to the match and don’t want to miss the action, then don’t worry, Saints Play will be available to stream on, it will cost only £2!

Last time out

The first time we faced Durham was all the way back in January this year, I have to mention it, but the weather was absolutely Baltic for the 12am kick off up in Durham. Amazingly, a lot of fans made the trip up to this match despite the eight hour round trip! We had done well in this match, pushing forward with every chance we had, we were again just missing that final product. It was a very physical and intense match between the two sides, with Durham not

afraid to throw a wrestling move or two into the play. The match ended a 0-0 draw despite Saints scoring but it wrongfully being ruled offside.

The second time we met Durham last season was two months on from when we first time we played them. This match again shows us how much Durham really invoke their physical presence and aggression on the pitch. We started off the match really dominating, with us getting a fair few chances that we were unable to finish. The second half we didn’t up our game, but Durham definitely did, they become more dominant, they also had a twelfth player with the number of times their physio was on the pitch. Magic sponge please! The match sadly ended in a 1 nil loss after Rio Hardy scored a goal in the 61st minute, seeing them take all 3 points home.

Looking ahead

We head into the match on Sunday with Saints sitting in 1st place in the table with 12 points, Durham 7th in the table and just 4 points behind us. We come off that back of an exceptional, hard fought, 2 nil win over Watford last Sunday, and a win over Bristol in the conti cup last Wednesday. Hopefully, the momentum coming off the two recent wins, will spur us on to go for it and fight for it (literally), against Durham on Sunday.

Durham are one of the teams in the league that didn’t add many new additions in the transfer

window, only making 3 new signings, with 4 departures. Their new signings consist of two strikers and one defender. I wonder how these new additions will add to their game on Sunday. A strange thing recently happened too which saw one of their fan favourites, Georgia Robert, leave to join Rugby Borough FC after the window had closed.

Sunday is most definitely going to be a tough test and a hard fought challenge, we know how physical and strong that the Durham squad are as we’ve seen it before. We can really be prepared for a bustle between the teams. I just hope the momentum from Saints last two games carry over and we play our game, because when we play our game; we’re slick, fast, skilful and hard to break down.

Durham finished 7th in the league last year picking up a total of 28 points overall. They conceded 30 and scored 29. Already this season, they’ve nearly conceded half the goals they did last season, that’s after 6 matches.

I’m looking forward to the match on Sunday, let’s bring the noise and support the mighty red and white! COME IN YOU REDS!
