This Sunday, Saints are heading away to Princes Park, for their match against London City Lionesses. The match will kick off at a changed time of 1pm! We hope to see as many of you supporters there as possible, to cheer on the girls on their next away match of the season, we need to bring that noise and get behind them! Tickets can be purchased online via the London City Lionesses website.
Last time out
The first time we played London City Lionesses was, yes you guessed it, a blistering cold day back in December! The match started off pretty evenly and stayed that tough battle throughout the whole 90 minutes. From watching this game, we could see how very well drilled, slick and organised the Lionesses were and to think our girls enjoyed and relished that challenge. We conceded in the 72nd minute, but that didn’t once stop our fighting spirit and pushing forward. In the 90th minute we were awarded a penalty after their keeper wiped out Ella Pusey! Paige stepped up to the penalty spot and drew it level!! The match ended in a 1-1 draw!
The second time we met London City Lionesses was back in April last season, the match started off with London City having the front foot, they had most of the ball and were very dominant with their play, we on the other hand tended to hit and hope opposed to looking up and looking for the correct pass! We didn’t start coming into the game until the end of the half. I do remember Ella Morris having their number 19 tucked safely in her pocket as well and also that stunning curling shot by Chloe that was sadly pushed out by the goalie. The second half saw more fight, we were pressuring them a lot more and were better with our one touch passing. Saints won 1-0 this day after Ella Pusey’s shot was parried way by the goalie, but luckily Wilko was there to tap it away!
Looking ahead
We head into the match on Sunday with Saints sitting in 1st place in the table with 15 points, London City Lionesses 10th in the table with only 5 points. We come of the back of a very brilliant and successful week of 3 wins, 2 in the league and one in the Continental Cup. Hopefully, the momentum and pure joy built from those 3 wins continues on to this Sunday, let’s hope we get a good few goals, collect the 3 points and remain at the top of the table.
London City Lionesses have signed numerous new additions to their squad in this summer transfer window, but with those new editions come a hell of a lot of departures. There has been a massive shake up within the club and I’m intrigued to see how it’s changed their play; we will find that out Sunday! We have already seen from their previous games that they have had a shaky start, one in which is miles different from their dominant and winning team of last season, what’s happened!?
London City Lionesses this season have only won 1 match, they’ve drawn two, and they’ve lost a massive 4. It baffles me because last season they lost 5 games within the whole season, whereas this season they’ve lost 4 within the first 7 games! In one of those losses was the big 6- 1 defeat to Crystal Palace, who have racked up one hell of a goal difference. Hopefully our strong Saints side will see through LCL and bring home those 3 points!
Last season, London City Lionesses finished 3rd in the table racking up a massive 45 points, only 4 points away from being promoted! They scored 49 goals, which was the most in the league and only conceded 20 goals!
One thing I can say for sure is that I am really looking forward to going back to Princes Park this Sunday, we will basically be playing a whole new team and personally, I’m excited to see Ruesha Littlejohn play! Good luck to our Saints and let’s hope we bring those 3 points home!!!
