This Sunday, Saints head away to Selhurst Park for their match against Crystal Palace. It’s scary to say it, but this game marks the halfway point of the season, and everything is still looking very close at the top! After the performance and loss to Charlton last Sunday, let’s hope we see a complete turn around and a dominating and exciting display! Let’s all get behind the girls, cheer them on to a hopeful victory! If you can’t make it to the match then don’t your worry, the game will be streamed live on the FA Player!!

Last time out

The first time that we played Palace last season was actually our very first win, in our first ever season within the championship! This was actually one of my favourite matches last season because it was a match where we showed the league that we do, in fact, mean business! We took our chances well and held on extremely well to hold on to the lead. We won 2-1 with Lexi scoring two spectacular goals! This was the first time we ever played Crystal Palace.

The second time we played Palace last season was back on home turf, St Marys Stadium and what a performance we saw in this match. We put in a pure dominance display, with shots galore that and saw us end the 90 minutes as 2-0 winners, thanks to goals from Sophia Pharoah and Ella Pusey. This was the match we first saw Chloe Peplow play, and from that moment we could see how exciting she was! We were on the front foot pretty much the whole game, which was enjoyable and exciting to watch!

Looking ahead

We head into the match on Sunday with Saints sitting in 4th place in the table with 18 points, Palace 3rd in the table with 20 points, only 2 points behind them! We come of the back of an unfortunate loss to Charlton, where we lost 2-0, where I feel our performance was not very good at all. Hopefully, the frustration of losing this match, pushes us on to get back to winning ways against Crystal Palace this weekend.

Crystal Palace, just like the rest of the league have added a fair few additions within their squad this season, 2 of those being LCL stars, Shanade Hopcroft and Hayley Nolan, who this far have been doing well for their new club. Will the new additions add a new oomph to the team? Will we see a much tougher challenge to the two matches we played against them last season? This Sunday we shall find out, and I have a feeling it’s going to be a very good, contested match!

In the last 9 matches that Palace have played; of course, they have a game in hand, they have won 6, drawn 2 and lost 1. They’ve scored 31 goals, massive number of goals I know, and they’ve conceded only 10, being the fourth best defence in the league.

Last season, Palace finished 5th in the league and during that they had scored a total of 28 goals and conceded 34. So, in 9 games alone so far, they’ve already scored more than they scored last season!

If you can, get to the match to cheer the girls on to a hopeful victory! See you Sunday, COME ON YOU SAINTS
