This Sunday, Saints head to the Dripping Pan to kick off their second season in the Championship. The summer break sure did feel never ending, but we had the World Cup to keep us occupied, massive well done to the Lionesses! This Sundays match will be played at the Dripping Pan with a later kick off time of 4pm. We hope to see as many of you supporters there as possible, to cheer on the girls on their very first match of the season, we need to bring that noise! Tickets can be purchased online via the Lewes website. If you cannot make the match, don’t you worry, it will be streamed live on the FA Player!

Last time out
It’s a weird one, our very first away match last season happened to be Lewes and what a game that turned out to be. Was very much a match of two halves, Lewes took the first half, and we blitzed the second, making it level after being 2 nil down! I still believe this was the game where we showed the league that we were not just there to make up the numbers, we were there to compete, that we did!
The last time we played Lewes was back in January, a cold wet day – which helped a lot with the magic sponge that kept being bought into play by the Lewes team. It was pretty certain from the get-go that there was only one team that wanted to play ball this match, that wasn’t Lewes. Poor sportsmanship and dirty tactics, which the ref loved to ignore. Pretty sure they spent more time on the floor than playing ball. Hopefully we see different this weekend.
The match ended 1 nil and the goalscorer was someone we are now very familiar with, Emily Kraft, our new signing. Emily got her head onto the end of a corner which slotted the ball into the net. Same again Sunday? This time with her repping the lovely Saints badge on her shirt.
Looking ahead
Looking ahead to this match makes me very excited, not only because it’s the first match of the season and we finally have football back, but also because this was one of my favourite ties last season! We go into the match Sunday with both teams on a clean slate, we don’t know playing styles, how Lewes’s new signings look and play, so in a way we’re going back, as Elsa says, Into the unknown.
Lewes have made seven new signings so far in the summer window, including 3 forwards, 2 defenders, 1 midfielders and also 1 winger. So Lewes have had a shake up and welcomed players for all areas of the field except from their goalkeeper. They have also lost players, two include Emily Kraft who has signed for us permanently and also their loanee Emma Thompson, who was on loan from Chelsea to them but now signed on a permanent deal to us.
Looking back to last season, Lewes finished 9th in the table, they picked up 26 points, scored 20 goals and conceded 29. Four of those 26 points being against us, this season though, we’re not going to let them take any, hopefully!
One thing I do know for sure, is that we have signed some cracking players who I think are going to take this season by storm!
