Welcome to Southampton, Remi!

Today we welcome some incredibly good news, the news that we have all been waiting so long for in fact! Saints have today announced the appointment of someone we are all familiar with, and that is Remi Allen as our new head coach. Remi is joining us after formerly coaching London City Lionesses in the second half of last season, and before that played for the likes of Birmingham, Aston Villa and Leicester. I particularly am happy with this appointment and cannot wait to see what the new season brings and how it unfolds!

Who is Remi Allen?

Remi Allen is a 33-year-old, former professional footballer and now turned coach, who is oozing with a lot of professional playing experience, starting her career back in 2008 with Leicester. As just said, Remi started her footballing career with Leicester in 2008, where she spent a season with them making 14 appearances. She then moved to Leeds Carnegie for one season before she moved to Notts County (Lincoln ladies), this is where she stayed from 2011-2013.

Then in 2014 she made her way over to Birmingham City for the first time where she then spent another 2 years before heading to Reading, this was her longest stint at a club where she stayed for four years and made 66 appearances for them. She moved back to Leicester where she spent a year, then moved to Aston Villa where she spent two years and then she went back to Birmingham before retiring and becoming head coach to London City Lionesses.

She hasn’t just played at club level either, she is also played international racking up more experience that she can bring into coaching a side to success. She knows how to play football how it’s played currently, if that makes sense? Fast paced style and moving forwards!

She also was assistant coach for the Lionesses U23 whilst she was still playing for Birmingham.

Sadly, Remi ruptured her ACL when she was 18 so she also knows what it means and how it feels to be injured as a professional footballer and how to care for them in doing so.

During her very short stint with London City Lionesses, she received an award for Manager of the Month in March, after the team won the first three matches under her being in charge!

I’m quite excited for this new appointment, I feel she can bring the experience of being a player, as well as the experience of being a coach even if it was for a short period of time. I’m really looking forward to seeing what Remi will bring to the club and how our season is going to unfold under her tenure.

Welcome to Saints Remi and Good luck!
