The Saints went into this game on the back of a defeat at Charlton, as it has proved so far this season we tend to start slow when coming back from a break from competitive football this season.
The game last week against Charton lent it self to the same process a loss, that was then followed with a draw in this weekend game V's Blackburn, so when you look back at the begining of the season and after the resart at the turn of the year we started with a loss then a draw followed by a win. so hold on tight we just may go on a run till the end of the season to put us back in the mix.
The game on sunday seemed as though we are on the same trend some nice link up play between the deffence and the midfield but when it came to the attack we seemed to be missing the cutting edge. The ball was always a little to far or little too short in the passing to the front players, we need to be a little more productive in picking up the second ball.
first half
The first half started slowly as if the teams were trying to find each othher out, no one wanting to make the first move, the saints made the earlier efforts as Megan Wynne and Beth Lumsden had some early efforts rebuffed but never gave the Blackburn Keeper cause for concern.
Between the 10th minuite and the 35th the saints were pushing and taking the game to the opposition, the saints were finding real joy down the right with Ella Morris and creating some exelent play. when we were having the chances the saints were not clinical enough to take them, of which seems to be the way of the saints this season.
As the half wore on Blackburn were coming more into the game and were finding there players better with some nice play, one of which they played some nice football down the right and with some twinkle toes the Blackburn player found herself in the box to take the shot and Kayla made an easy save as the ball was driven straight at her
The saints missed a few more chances as the game headed towards halftime.
Chloe Peplow was runnig the midfeid like a general and was making the stong tackles and making her mark on the match.
The saints went in at half time 0-0 but with the saints faithfull and Marrieanne wondering how the saints had not scored.
Second Half
As the saints came out for the second hlaf they seemed to have a sping in there step wanting to put things right, they were movong the ball fluently but without full conviction, the saints were the ones creating the chances but it would not fall for them to take the advantage.
This trend continued throughout the second half as saints could not find the net, there was call for alarm in the 53rd minute when Saffron Jordan was set clean through on goal, but was only thawted by the on rushing Kayla Rendell in goal for the saints.
As the clock was was running down the saints had an other chance from some clever play from Pharoah and Kendall from a corner Pharoah had the time and space to whip in a cross, it hung in the air and begged to headed home at the far post.
Blackburn did enough to keep the saints at bay– much as they had done all afternoon.
PLAYER OF THE MATCH
The voted ‘Player of the match’ for today against Blackburn is Chloe Peplow
She was Outstanding in the middle and she was always there to get stuck in and to stop an attack from Blackburn. She was very calm and collected too!
A perfect fit for Southampton, hopefully we keep her for next season!
