Today, Saints are welcoming WSL Giants, Arsenal to St Marys Stadium for the Continental Cup. The match will kick off at an earlier time of 6:30pm and is set to be beating our current record attendance, with tickets still flying out! This is going to be HUGE game for the girls so let’s all get behind them, cheer them on and hopefully we will witness a great game and test against Arsenal!

Last time out

Unfortunately, we have never had a match up with Arsenal so I cannot contribute to this section! Although, what I can say is the last match we had was against Crystal Palace and what a game that was! We came away victorious with the 3 points, after a goal fest and a win of 4-3!! We played incredibly well in this match, our passing was on point, our vision even better and our fastpaced football was up to par! (Will go into a lot more detail when I write the review for the match very soon)

Looking ahead

Looking ahead to quite possibly one of the biggest games we’ve played so far, against WSL giants and current Conti Cup trophy holders, Arsenal, is always going to be an exciting thing, over 12,000 tickets have sold at the time of writing this, and to me, as a fan, that is truly amazing to see! I’ve followed this team from the beginning and to see the growth that is happening is so great!

I think us being fans, know it is going be a VERY VERY tough challenge on TODAY and none of us reply expecting the girls to go out there and beat the Gunners.

I mean it would be lovely and amazing if it did happen, but for us fans, to see those girls go out there and play their game on the pitch and show Arsenal that they can and give them a battle, it would be great to see. We’re not expecting them to win but then you can only beat the team that’s in front of you.

Not forgetting that Arsenal is also Marieanne's old club who she used to play for!

Arsenal have only played one match in this cup so far and that was against Bristol City, Arsenal went on to become 3-1 winners and bagging their three points in our group!

Saints are currently second in our group after playing 2 matches, Bristol City to which we took it to penalties and bagged that extra point, and also Reading where we walked away 1-0 winners and with the 3 points. We have 5 points so far!

One thing I have to say to the girls would be, to embrace the challenge that is put in front of them Ttoday and also to go out there and enjoy it! Football is a journey that is full of challenges and experiences, and this is a true test and experience of what it’s like to play against a top team, gives us somewhat a taste of what the WSL will be like too!

Good luck girls, win lose or draw we will all be so proud of the outcome of what happens on that pitch!
